: 0 For This Post 0 Total | By Dan Feldman • 12:19 pm • January 24, 2012 Chris Broussard of ESPN suggested five trades that would help both teams: 5. Detroit Pistons trade Tayshaun Prince to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Michael Beasley Detroit is horrible, and in need of a major overhaul. They signed Prince to keep an asset, and turning him into the talented Beasley could end up being a coup. I know Beasley has his issues, but he’s also got game, and with the way things are going in Detroit, it’s worth the risk. By adding Beasley, the Pistons would have a young nucleus of Brandon Knight, Ben Gordon, Beasley and the impressive Greg Monroe. It’s not championship-caliber, but it has a chance of being better than what they have now. Joe Dumars once helped rejuvenate the careers of Billups and Ben Wallace. Maybe he can get through to Beasley, who after two trades would perhaps be a bit humbled. For Minnesota, it clears out their congested small forward spot and gives Derrick Williams room to grow. The Timberwolves need to find out whether Williams can play the 3 full-time, and what better way than to move Beasley out of the way. In case you haven’t noticed, Minny has done quite well without Beasley in the lineup, going 5-4 in the first nine games he missed due to injury. Tayshaun Prince can’t be traded until March 1, and even then, I don’t see the Pistons making this trade. Joe Dumars has maintained a young, growing team needs a veteran to guide it, and he clearly sees Prince as that veteran. That said, without the all-important chance to assess Michael Beasley’s character issues up close, I’d probably make the trade. via PistonsPowered ![]() |

Dumars wont hesisitate to add young talent, but if he has a trade on the table to do so, he wont do it till a day before the deadline so that we can squeeze out as many losses as we can for the draft. I'm also pretty sure with the way things are going in New Orleans we can get Kaman for a second round pick. |

Beasley is a 6 foot 10, 23 year old SF...averaging 13 ppg and 7 rpg. He's 23! For his career he's averaging 16 ppg. Prince is 31, averaging 12 ppg and 3.1 rpg this season. 12.9 ppg and 4.6 rpg for his career. I doubt that the Wolves would do this trade. Yeah Beasley has some baggage, but he's young, talented, and has potential to develop into a 20 ppg scorer. |

He's also an exceptionally smart basketball player. He's got a ring and a ton of playoff miles behind him. He's got credibility with the kids. |

And by no means am I saying I'd trade for Beasley. I would however look into it if it presented itself. I doubt that Prince has enough value to get a Beasley in a trade though.

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I would definitely think about trading Prince for Beasley with Frank as the coach and 4 wins. I could understand the argument against it a lot more if we were playoff contenders, but we aint, and no amount of watching Tay ignore open shooters to toss out that one jump hook move he has over and over will change that. This is the lowest scoring team in the NBA. This is the WORST scoring Pistons team since they were Fort Wayne. The last time we had a team who scored this little, the Lions were the NFL champs. That would be ok, if we were a defensive powerhouse that held other teams to even LESS than what the Fort Wayne Pistons averaged in '56. We are LAST in rebounding. Beasley is a 23 year old athletic SF who can score in a variety of ways and actually rebounds the basketball. Of course you'd have to consider making the deal. |

He could be a 22/9 player on this team. I would take Cousins, but I'm not sure I would take Beasley. Cousins has a higher ceiling and plays a much more vital position. I would think long and hard about Beasley, though. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | If you are building a team, I'm not sure you look to 6'10" guys who shoot 45% and turn the ball over. Beasley obviously has tons of natural talent but he is a complete knuckle-head on and off the court. As badly as we need talent, we need to establish a professional culture worse. |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I'd pass on Beasley. His defense is atrocious and he isn't the type of scorer you can build an offense around and win consistently. He's got a lot of talent, but is he interested in being a winner? I'm not sure if we can afford to take a chance on him. As for comparing him to Prince...come on. Prince's 12 points are more valuable than Beasley's 20, because Prince is actually playing defense at the other end. We'd be getting a scoring boost and taking a much bigger defensive hit on a team that already has major issues. The TWolves drafted the same type of player in Derrick Williams with the 2nd pick, which shows how much they value Beasley. And they got Beasley for nothing. : 0 For This Post 0 Total | Who cares how many wins we have? Beasley does nothing except make us worse right now, and his value for the future is a total mystery. If we offered Tayshaun to Minnesota for Beasley and filler, they'd take it in a heartbeat. He makes them better than beasley does, he adds quality defense to a team that badly needs some, and is not a locker room risk. They have Beasley's physical duplicate in Derrick Williams, so they lose nothing by dealing him. You can take a risk on a guy like Cousins that has a more diverse skill set and fills a much more valuable position on the floor. There's little reason to gamble on a no-defense playing ball hog that shows up once a week or so and shows little dedication to maximizing his ability. Last edited by Kstat; 01-25-2012 at 01:10 PM. |

You would NEVER get Cousins for Prince. You are comparing apples to oranges. Beasley is only 23. I'd say that playing under the right coach that stressed defense would help him.

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | It seems to me that Beasley is too big a risk to go for him, especially for a team in a rebuilding mode, w/o yet a strong and established leadership. If anything, I'd rather try to use Prince as an asset to get someone who may contribute in a long run. For example, maybe we could use him to obtain Asic from the Bulls, etc. |

We currently have a manage a trois with other fortunate teams with 4 losses. Some other shitty team has 3 losses, but can't remember who. We are talking top 3 potential! |

: 0 For This Post 0 Total | I would MUCH rather have Asik. But with Noah being super inconsistent and Deng coming back soon, why would the Bulls consider that deal? There probably are way more than a dozen guys I would rather have in a deal than Beasley. But Tayshaun's value isn't nearly as high as it may have been a couple of years back. He's beginning to get that mythical "defensive" rep that everyone trots out on guys after the fact. He still has those long arms and the effort is there, but he is simply not staying in front of guys like he used to. |
